Science and Technology

  • Flandrau Science Center
    This hands-on science center located at the UA, includes a planetarium, public observatory, mineral museum, interactive science exhibits, and a science store.
  • Kitt Peak National Observatory
    Numerous working observatories for nighttime optical and infrared astronomy and daytime study of the Sun are located on the Tohono O’odham Reservation on Kitt Peak, 56 miles southwest of Tucson. The visitor center is open daily.
  • Pima Air and Space Museum
    One of the largest air and space museums in the world, featuring more than 275 aircraft and spacecraft, including many of the most historically significant and technically advanced.
  • Titan Missile Museum
    The only publicly accessible Titan II missile site in the United States, located 25 miles south of Tucson.

  • Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum
    A world-renowned zoo, natural history museum, and botanical garden, all in one place on 21 acres of beautiful Sonoran Desert. In Tucson Mountain Park, west of Tucson.
  • Boyce Thompson Arboretum
    Run by the University of Arizona and Arizona State Parks, this arboretum provides educational, recreational, research, and conservation opportunities. Located a one-hour drive east of Phoenix, or 60 miles northeast of Tucson.
  • Kartchner Caverns State Park
    The jewel of the Arizona State Park system, Kartchner Caverns is a stunning limestone cavern system near Benson, AZ, southeast of Tucson. Its world-class cave formations are considered by many to the best of their kind in the world.
  • Sabino Canyon Recreation Area
    A popular and unique Southwestern recreation spot north of Tucson, at the base of the Santa Catalina Mountains. Hiking trails lead along Sabino and Bear canyons and into the high country.
  • Tucson Botanical Gardens
    An oasis in central Tucson where you can learn about desert gardening and native Arizona plants. A tropical greenhouse is home to a special exhibit of tropical butterflies.

Art, Museums & Culture

  • Center for Creative Photography
    Located on the University of Arizona campus in Tucson, this acclaimed museum houses the photographic archives of Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, Garry Winogrand, Harry Callahan, and other great 20th century photographers.
  • San Xavier del Bac Mission
    Built from 1783 to 1797 under the direction of Franciscan missionaries, this church is considered by many to be the finest example of mission architecture in the United States, blending Moorish, Byszantine, and later Mexican Renaissance architecture.
  • Tohono Chul Park
    A 49-acre desert preserve in northwest Tucson. The park has nature trails, a museum on the natural and cultural heritage of the region, a tea room, and a greenhouse and garden shop.
