Artist in Residence Program

The artist-in-residence is strongly encouraged to reside in the Biosphere 2 student village, where subsidized accommodation can be provided. Modest stipends can also be applied for to cover material costs. Please include this in your project proposal budget.

Artists-in-Residence are also invited to exhibit their work at the B2 Art Gallery and/or on the campus grounds.

Artists interested in investigating the intersection between Art and Science are invited to apply to our residency program. There is currently no deadline for application. Inquiries can be addressed directly to:

Applications should include:

  1. A description of the proposed project.
  2. The project’s expected duration.
  3. A statement of purpose explaining how a residency at the B2 Institute is expected to inform and benefit the project.
  4. The artist’s vita, including a list of exhibitions, publications, recordings and or/performances, specific to their practiced medium.
  5. Budget for project.
  6. Proposed duration of project with the B2 Institute.
  7. Samples of Artistic Work (submit as appropriate).

  • Visual Artists (i.e. photographers, sculptors, painters, etc.)
    1CD with 6 different jpg or tif images of high enough quality to project on a screen (preferred size is 1024 x 768)
     
  • Writers
    6 pages of written examples
     
  • Musicians/Composers
    1 CD
     
  • Performing Artists
    1 CD or DVD
     
  • Interdisciplinary Artists
    Appropriate sample combinations based on the above
     

Once the completed application is received, the Director of the B2 Institute and the Advisory Panel will then engage in a discussion with outstanding applicants to develop an individually tailored residency program that best fits the goals and objectives of the prospective artist/applicant.
