Nick Hanauer

Second Avenue Partners

Nick Hanauer began his professional career at Pacific Coast Feather Company and currently serves as the company's co-chairman and chief strategy officer. In 1988 he co-founded Museum Quality Framing Company, the largest company of its kind on the west coast. In 1995 Mr. Hanauer became a founding investor and served as a board advisor for amazon.com till January of 2000. In 1996 he founded and served as CEO of Avenue A Media, Inc., where he currently serves as chairman of the board. He also founded and served as chairman of gear.com, which merged with overstock.com in 2001. In the year 2000, he partnered with three colleagues to create the Seattle-based venture capital company Second Avenue Partners, which is a provider of management, strategy, and capital for early stage companies. Mr. Hanauer is actively involved in the Seattle community and especially with Washington State's public education system. In 2000 he co-founded the League of Education Voters with the goal of transforming the educational system and increasing student achievement. Additionally, he serves on the boards of the Seattle Downtown Association, The University of Washington Foundation and the Alliance for Education. Mr. Hanauer received a B.A. degree in philosophy from the University of Washington.
