Ramón Pacheco Aguilar

Director General, Research Center for Food and Development (CIAD), Mexico

Ramón Pacheco obtained his undergraduate chemistry degree from the Universidad de Sonora, and his MS and Ph.D. degrees from the State University of Oregon. He currently serves as Director General of the Center for Research on Food and Development (CIAD) in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. He held the position of Professor at the Universidad de Sonora from 1989 to 2007. Dr. Pacheco is a member of the National System of Researchers (Level III) and the Mexican Academy of Sciences. He received the National Award for Science and Technology of Food in 1992. He is a Distinguished Professor of the Universidad de Sonora and has authored and co-authored 45 scientific articles and four book chapters. He has served as the representative of Mexico at Codex Alimentarius, Chair of the Pacific Fisheries Technologist Group (1994-1995), and has been a consultant for US and Mexican industry. Dr. Pacheco's research areas include biochemistry postcapture, quality and technology of fishing products, technological development and innovation, and recovery of the bioactive compound of subproducts and residues of the fishing industry.
